How can Artificial Intelligence (AI) be a partner in coaching? Many people worry that AI is coming to take over the coaching industry. But what if AI could actually be a valuable partner in coaching?
Can AI Replace Human Coaches? An AI’s Honest Answer
The subject of this week’s webinar, led by Master Coaches Cindy Muthukarapan and Ram Ramanathan, and Doctoral Scholar Shesh Vasudevamurthy, explored the question of whether AI can replace human coaches.
Curious to get an AI’s perspective, I decided to ask an AI model itself how it could be leveraged as a coaching tool. Here’s what it had to say:
“While I cannot fully replace a human coach, I can be a valuable tool in your coaching arsenal. Here are some ways you can utilize me as a coach:
Information & Inspiration:
- Research topics & generate quotes.
- Brainstorm new coaching approaches.
Tasks & Organization:
- Set & track goals, create schedules, and take & organize notes.
Communication & Reflection:
- Craft personalized questions, develop scripts & outlines, and summarize key takeaways.
Remember: My role is to support, not replace, your professional judgment.”
How AI Can Become Your Powerful Coaching Partner
I was intrigued by the very first thing the AI tool said, “I cannot fully replace a human coach.” As the webinar also conveyed, the question isn’t if AI can support coaches. The question is how it can be our partner.
As Ram pointed out, it is no more about the definitions of what is and isn’t AI. It’s about partnering with it without judgments and leveraging it to move beyond transactional coaching. Shesh added that AI has been around for quite some time now in the form of different technologies, and we can now do so much more with these resources.
Forget AI Takeover, Embrace AI Partnership (and Your Spiritual Intelligence!)
Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room. You might be thinking, “Is AI going to replace human coaches?” Here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be “us vs. them.” Reminiscing a session with David Peterson, former Chief Coach at Google, Ram emphasized the importance of spiritual intelligence in coaching. By cultivating that inner wisdom and AI as your partner, you can become an even more effective and impactful coach.
