If I could summarize our recent webinar, I’d choose 3 words: cool, quirky, unconventional, fun, and all-around artsy. Okay, that’s more than 3, but I can’t help it! It was just that awesome. There’s something truly special about creating art, even briefly, and putting down our screens. It’s soul-stirring. “How to Draw Faces and Your Future,” a Coacharya webinar led by the extraordinary artist and illustrator Vijaya Aswani, had everyone smiling, rediscovering their love for pencils, and letting go of that constant need to be result-oriented. We basically became kids again, with smiles on our faces and a spreefirit (wink, wink) in our hearts.
5-Step Hack to Draw Faces
Vijaya kicked off the webinar with a simple exercise to reacquaint everyone with their pencils. She reminded us to use a light, gentle touch. And as if rediscovering art wasn’t satisfying enough, the crunchy, crispy sound of the pencil provided some serious ASMR vibes.
After the warm-up, Vijaya walked us through a 5-step hack to draw any face. Simple and easy, these steps made me wonder why my art teachers back in the day didn’t break it down like this. Years of dreading art, avoiding drawing, and getting a ‘D’ could have been avoided! But that’s what makes artists like Vijaya so special. Her whole demeanor encouraged us to rediscover that childlike energy and fun in the art process. It wasn’t about how “good” you were; it was about enjoying the process and having fun. And it made me think how much less stressful our lives would be if we could just let go, at least a little, of that need to see results in everything we do.

Draw Your Way to 2025: Vision Boards Get a Facelift!
Ever feel like you’re drowning in to-dos, just doing instead of becoming? Vijaya totally gets it! She reminded us how easily we can get lost in the daily grind and forget the amazing future we envision. Then she introduced us to vision boards—with a super cool twist! You’ve probably thought about vision boards in terms of just clipping pictures from magazines. Well, forget that. Vijaya took vision boards to a whole new level by introducing the concept of drawing our future selves! Think about it: instead of just seeing a generic image of success, you’re actually creating your own personalized representation of it. And what better way to connect with your vision than by literally drawing your own face?
Vijaya broke down this self-portrait into three key visions: outward, inward, and environmental. The outward vision is all about the physical you. Will you be rocking a new hairstyle? Maybe some piercings? A stylish new hat? It’s about visualizing the “look” of your future self. But it’s the inward vision that really gets to the heart of things. This is where you focus on your mindset, which you can express through different facial expressions in your drawing. Think about the emotions you want to embody in 2025!
Then, there are your achievements. Imagine your future self wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with your biggest accomplishment in bold letters! And don’t forget your strengths! Vijaya suggested adding a crown (or a cool cap if you’re feeling less royal) as a reminder of your inner power. Finally, the environmental vision is about where you see yourself. Are you giving a speech? Relaxing with family? Dancing in your kitchen? Draw the backdrop that represents your ideal environment. More than just drawing a face, the whole process was about drawing your future, inside and out!

Unleash Your Inner Picasso (Even if It’s a Little Wobbly)
So, next time you pick up a pencil (or a crayon, or even a stick of charcoal if you’re feeling really wild), remember the spirit of fun and play that Vijaya inspired. Don’t worry about creating a masterpiece worthy of the Louvre. Instead, embrace the wobbly lines, the smudges, the sheer joy of putting something – anything! – down on paper. Let your inner child take over, the one who used to draw dinosaurs with six legs and princesses with rainbow hair. That’s where the real magic happens.
And honestly, isn’t that what art is all about? Not perfection, not results, but the pure, unadulterated fun of creation. It’s about losing yourself in the moment, forgetting about deadlines and to-do lists, and just… playing. So go ahead, grab a pencil and unleash your inner artist. You might just surprise yourself (and have a blast while you’re at it).
