Mindfulness to Mindlessness

Mindfulness is the state of being awake with all our senses working, as opposed to slouching on a couch, watching the idiot box, popping garbage into one’s mouth robotically. It’s not at all a state of awareness, but the beginning state of conscious awareness.
We need to be mindful while driving, using machinery, doing any paid job, and also while observing social manners and etiquette. In fact, contrary to popular fiction, being mindful increases stress levels as some of these scientific studies show.
The highest state of awareness and consciousness is termed No Mind in Zen and the Fourth State in Veda. In this state of witnessing, detached awareness we move beyond the mind in time and space to the energy state, which is our natural state of being. Coacharya calls this mindlessness.
